Zoom Add-ons
Add-ons are where Zoom costs spiral. Each solves a real problem, but they compound quickly.
Zoom Phone
$10–$20/user/monthCloud phone system. Standard plan ($10) covers US & Canada. Pro Global Select ($20) covers 40+ countries.
Watch: Most businesses underestimate how many users actually need phone. Shadow IT: users calling via mobile anyway.
Zoom Rooms
$49/room/monthConference room software licence. Turns a meeting room into a Zoom Room with camera/screen/speakerphone.
Watch: Hardware is extra: $500–$2,000 per room. Often rooms are booked but unused — you pay regardless.
Zoom Events & Webinars
From $99/monthHost large webinars (500–10,000 attendees). Zoom Events adds ticketing and event hub features.
Watch: Webinar capacity tiers are expensive. Most teams only need this 2–4 times/year — consider per-event pricing.
Zoom Whiteboard
$2.49/user/monthFull-featured collaborative whiteboard beyond the basic version included in paid plans.
Watch: Figma FigJam, Miro, or Mural may already be in your stack. Audit before adding.
Zoom Contact Centre
Custom pricingOmnichannel contact centre (voice, chat, video) built on Zoom. Competes with Five9, Genesys.
Watch: Significant implementation cost. Often sold as a Zoom discount deal but requires full migration from existing CCaaS.
Zoom Scheduler
Included in Business+Calendly-like scheduling pages. Included in Business and above — but often overlooked.
Watch: Teams paying for Calendly while it's already included in their Zoom Business plan.
The Zoom Pricing Gotchas Nobody Tells You
- →Annual billing looks cheaper per month, but you pay 12 months upfront. If headcount drops, you don't get a refund.
- →The minimum seat count for Business plans is 10 users. A 6-person team can't get Business at the advertised price without paying for 4 phantom seats.
- →Cloud recording storage is per-licence, not pooled. 5GB goes fast. Many teams quietly exceed storage limits and face surprise charges.
- →Price increases are frequent — Zoom raised prices ~20% in 2023. Annual contracts lock in the current rate, but renewal price may be higher.
- →Zoom Phone numbers are ported, not instant. There's a 2–4 week porting lead time. Factor this into any Zoom Phone rollout.
- →Cancellation requires contacting support. There's no self-serve cancel button for annual plans.
- →Add-on billing cycles may not align with your main plan. You may have multiple renewal dates causing cash flow confusion.
